In 2019 I was awarded an amazing grant by the Kentucky Women’s Foundation that gave me the wonderful opportunity to implement a unique art therapy project work with my local homeless organization’s addiction recovery program. Starting July 2019 I began teaching weekly classes to clients that gave them how to apply basic hand quilting and applique skills to create unique works of art. Students created self portraits that are not just a reflection of themselves in the current moment of recovery but their past and their future. Below are some of the beautiful quilts produced by my students. Each of them designed and hand quilted each self portrait:
